Hello, my friend!
I hope your week’s going swell! My kindergartner and I (plus my 20-month-old, who makes for an interesting learning environment, lol…) have been enjoying diving into the Fertile Crescent, some basic biology facts, skip counting to 30, and The Ten Commandments this week. I personally love the nostalgic feeling I get from revisiting things like Mesopotamia and the Taxonomy of Living Things (#nerdalert…)
Alrighty, onto this week’s Top 4! I hope you enjoy them!
WASTE SOME TIME – REALLY!
“You waste years by not being able to waste hours.” – Amor Tversky
Wasting time doesn’t have to be, well, a waste of time. If done wisely, “wasting” time is refreshing to the soul, renewing to the mind, rejuvenating to the body. If the only mode we allow ourselves to operate in is “Go! Go! Go!” we will one day find ourselves regretting the many opportunities we didn’t take to slow down, be still, and soak in simplicity.
MORE THAN COMPETENT
“Being good at what you do is partially about competency, but not exclusively. Two other things that matter: Reliability. You do what you say you’re going to do, on time and as expected. Enthusiasm. You’re excited to be here and eager to work on this problem. Skills matter, but in many cases it’s your reliability or attitude that separates your from the pack.” – James Clear
No matter if someone’s a CEO or a SAHM, whatever one’s daily duties, excellence is something we should all aspire to (see Colossians 3:23, Ecclesiastes 9:10, and Proverbs 22:29). If you have a habit of being unreliable or moody and grumpy while doing your work, ask the Lord to strengthen you and broaden your focus, so that you’re able to see that exhibiting trustworthiness and joy in all you do is incredibly valuable! Not to mention, when we seek to be individuals of strong character, we’re more content.
THINK ABOUT YOUR DEATH
“Let us live as we shall wish we had lived when life is over.” – Charles Spurgeon
Here’s your reminder that today could be your last (morbid, but true). Have you told your loved ones you love them? Have you forgiven those who need forgiving? Have you asked for forgiveness from those you’ve hurt?
None of us is perfect. Seldom will our days be all sunshine and unicorns. Perfection and “happiness” are not the aims of life, after all. But we do all have the choice to bring truth, goodness, peace, and reconciliation into every day and to live each day with intention. And that’s better, in my opinion, than unicorns and rainbows and any other staple of fairy tale illustrations!
This one’s for the moms! On this episode of “The Inadequate Mom Show,” I hold nothing back as I discuss biblical teachings and commands on modesty, and challenge moms to consider what their outward appearance and “adornment” says about their relationship with God, their husbands, and also their examples to young women. Listen HERE!
Thank you as always for your support of my writing!
