Hello, my friend!
I hope you’re having a great week! We got a new puppy over the weekend, so…yeah… You already know! He’s a Jack Russell terrier, a breed I’ve always wanted to have, as quite a few of my childhood friends had one and they were just the sweetest, smartest, funniest little creatures. And also, my husband and I used to be big Frasier fans, and Eddie, of course, was a JRT!
I don’t think I mentioned in my previous emails that my very first children’s book (for ages 0-5) is available in Kindle now! It’ll be out in paperback (which I recommend over the Kindle version for reading with your child/grandchild/niece/nephew/
Where I Go Night-Night? was written shortly after the author’s son asked her why he couldn’t sleep in the chicken coop, his bathtub, or on the porch swing.
After listening patiently to her answers, full of colorful descriptions of stinky chicken droppings, uncomfortable acrylic, and noisy nocturnal critters, her son was convinced that his bed really was the best place to go night-night, which is the sensible conclusion Little Bear reaches as well.
This cozy bedtime book about a preschool-age bear getting ready for bed with his mama bear is a wonderful way to wind down with your little ones and encourage their own imaginations to take flight.
Alrighty, jumping into this week’s Top 4! I hope it blesses you!
PARDOY OF HUMAN CONNECTION
“I’ve increasingly begun to think that the connections we have – the connections we think we have – are like a kind of parody of human connection. If you have a crisis in your life, you’ll notice something – it won’t be your Twitter followers who come to sit with you. It won’t be your Facebook friends who help you turn it around. It’ll be your flesh and blood friends who you have deep and nuanced and textured face to face relationships with.” – Johann Hari
You are your top five “flesh and blood friends”? When is the last time you caught up with them or invited them to coffee, or asked them how you can help with any trial they’re facing?
This book is one of my and my husband’s top books of, well, ever, I’d say. If you’re not up for reading the book, I urge you to watch this interview between the author, Rod Dreher (senior writer and editor of “The American Conservative”), and Jordan Peterson. In it, Peterson and Dreher discuss the book, the continuous emergency of Communism in the West, ideology as a substitute for religion, the importance of courage, and more. View it HERE.
THE POWER OF SCRIPTURE
“Indeed, as one’s spiritual life intensifies, things become clearer and the essence of God is more easily understood. Sometimes one word, or a single sentence from Scripture, is enough to fill a person with a special light. An insight or new meaning is revealed and penetrates one’s inner being and remains there for weeks or months at a time.” – Silvester Krcmery, from Rod Dreher’s book, LIVE NOT BY LIES
HEALTH TIP OF THE WEEK – OUTWORK YOUR AGE
“People in their 40s and 50s who eat healthy, walk daily, lift weights, and have a positive mindset can look and feel like they’re in their 20s and 30s. Age is just a number.” – James DiNicolantonio
I’ve been working out since I was 16 (an athlete before that since I was a kid), and at 37, I can attest to the veracity of Dr. DiNicolantonio’s statement. I feel just as strong, fit, and healthy as I did a decade ago and don’t suffer from any of the aches and pains that so many of my peers do.
