The Belief/Confidence Connection, Poetic Food for Thought, The Power of Play Dates, and MORE!

Hello, my friend!

I hope you’re doing great! It’s been a messy, dreary, very wet week here in south Texas due to two major factors: Tropical Storm Alberto, and the worst sinus infection I’ve ever experienced.

I’ve had sinus infections before, but they normally clear up on their own after 10 days or so, and they’ve never caused me the agonizing cheek, molar, and temple pain I had for several days before starting antibiotics (thank the Lord for those!).

I have a feeling that my pregnancy (pregnancy suppresses one’s immune system) has something to do with this beast-mode bout of sinusitis, but I’m happy to report that after starting Flonase and antibiotics yesterday, I was able to breathe through my nose last night for the first time in well over a week. Coincidentally, before getting sick, I’d watched THIS EPISODE of The Spill-Over with the author of Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art which emphasizes the importance of breathing through one’s nose… Give it a watch; it was fascinating!

I hope you enjoy this week’s Top 4!

THE BELIEF/CONFIDENCE CONNECTION

“Confidence comes from the experience of being believed. For me, confidence is self-trust. It’s not feeling good about yourself; it’s self-trust. I really do know the way I feel.” – Dr. Becky Kennedy

POETIC FOOD FOR THOUGHT

In this short Life that only lasts an hour
How much – how little – is within our power – Emily Dickinson

The Word of God says that life is a “vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” (James 4:14). Psalm 102:11-12 and Job 8:9 also describe the fleeting nature of human life in comparison to eternity. When we understand that life is as a mist, or a passing shadow, we are better able to prioritize what truly matters and optimize the time we have.

What’s one thing you can cut out of your life today to make better, wiser use of your time? What’s one thing you would be wise to add into your life?

A POSITIVE SPIN ON SPARRING

“You want to be in a relationship with someone you can spar with, partly because you have hard problems to solve. If the person you are with is not willing to put forward their opinion, then you only have half the cognitive power that you would otherwise have. The hope is that you find someone who is interestingly different from you, but not so different that you cannot communicate. Hopefully, they have the ability and will to express their opinion because that keeps your interest heightened.” – Jordan Peterson
