Hello, my friend!
I hope you and your family are all doing great and feeling fantastic!
My family and I just returned from a quick vacation up to the hill country, just outside of San Antonio, where we enjoyed three blissful days comprised of playgrounds, parks, delicious burgers, live music, quaint cafes, and best of all, quality time catching up with old friends.
Thanks to one such friend, and my mom’s help too, Ben and I were also able to get away on a bookstore date! I picked up this great book on discovering and nurturing children’s unique intelligences, and this one on the classical liberal arts. I also got a super-cool map of Odysseus’s journeys that I wish were wall-sized! I recently read this kid-friendly version of The Odyssey that I highly recommend. My six-year-old (he was five when we finished it) loved it!
Alrighty, time to dive into this week’s Top 4. Hope you enjoy!
OUR BELIEFS SHAPE OUR REALITY
“Argue for your limitations and, sure enough, they’re yours.” – writer and pilot Richard Bach
MY INSTAGRAM PLAN (that seems to be working!)
I recently did a digital detox from Instagram, and after thinking and praying about how to proceed with the platform (and if I should at all!), I’ve concluded that I must be extremely disciplined if I am to engage with the app, or any social media app, for that matter.
So, what does my social media discipline look like? For me, it means I post to my Instagram Stories on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only, and only twice each day: the first time to post my workout videos, and the second time to share my “randoms” (usually funny memes, inspirational quotes, and health- and wellness-related tips) within a FIVE-MINUTE timeframe. This has proven extremely effective for me thus far and I finally feel like have mastery over the app instead of the other way around!
NO FISHING
“God takes our sins – the past, present, and future – and dumps them in the sea and puts up a sign that says no fishing allowed.” – Corrie ten Boom
I love that visual, and this complementary passage from the Bible: “And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.” – Hebrews 8:12, NLT
WE BECOME…
“We become what we give attention. We become what we spend time with. We become what we ruminate on. We become what we habituate. We become what we behold.” – Ian Simkins
