Living at YOUR OWN Pace, What’s “Phubbing”?, Healthy > Thin, & MORE!

Hello, my friend!

I hope you and yours are doing well and feeling great!

I’m excited to share with you that my next contemporary fantasy novel (inspired by Greek mythology, of course!) is almost ready to be sent to my amazing editor. I have about 10 chapters left to revise before it’s off to Penny’s MMRP (Mighty, Miracle-working Red Pen), and then it’s on to cover design and formatting, then finally to your hands and the hands of any bibliophile/mythophile friends you fancy sharing it with! I’ll be sharing the title along with excerpts in the coming weeks.

Okay, time for this week’s Top 4! I hope you enjoy them!

LIVING LIFE AT YOUR OWN PACE

“The crazier the world gets, the more time I spend gardening, walking, and slowly reading books. Live life at the pace of your soul.” – Jeremy Pryor

If you’re on Instagram (and perhaps he’s on Twitter/X, too), I highly recommend you follow @Jeremympryor. His content is always scripturally sound and packs a thought-provoking punch!

ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH “PHUBBING”?

“One way that phones have hurt our relationships is through ‘phubbing’ (a contraction of phone snubbing), when a person breaks away from a conversation to look at their screen. Research shows that it interferes with the intimacy and perceived quality of social interactions. People who are more addicted to their phones are, unsurprisingly, the biggest phubbers, which may explain why people who are the heaviest users of phones or social media are also the most depressed and lonely.” – Jonathan Haidt

I’d wager that all of us have been guilty of “phubbing.” My husband and I, well aware of our proclivity to “phub,” make it a point to put our phones out of reach when we spend time together or are out with others, and have a no-phones policy at meal times. If the phones are out, it’s simply too tempting to reach for them “just real quick,” or “just one time” to check or send a text message, find an interesting article or funny meme, or just start mindlessly scrolling when we frankly grow too lazy to converse with those around us.

How do you respond when others are “phubbing” you? Have you implemented your own “phub-proofing” boundaries? I’d love to hear about them! (diana.tyler86@gmail.com)

HEALTHY > THIN

I wrote in a previous email that the book club novel I recently read, The Last Mrs. Parrish, was a far cry from a 5-star-read, in my humble opinion. However, I did find a quote that I immediately highlighted and saved to share with you:

“We’re not going to worry about fat or thin anymore – only healthy. God made our bodies very smart, and if we put good things in them and do fun things for exercise, it will all be okay.” – from The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

BEAT THE BLUES AND BLAHS, MAMA!

This one’s for the moms! In this episode of “The Inadequate Show,” I discuss how mamas can defeat feelings of depression and discontent by identifying chinks in our spiritual armor. In Part I of this series, I expound on the fact that we’re all three-part beings and define Spirit and Soul and their vital roles in our overall wellbeing.
