Hello, my friend!
I hope you’re having a wonderful week. I’m sitting in a café on an absolutely beautiful Wednesday morning, thanking God for this season when the whole world seems to be a bit kinder, a bit friendlier, a bit more grateful and giving. I’m also thankful for nonstop Christmas songs and the blaring of Josh Groban’s best-in-the-world vocals in our house! (Who’s your favorite artist to listen to during the holidays?)
In this week’s Top 4, I’m talking about Tylenol, superior intellects, completing tough projects, and maintaining our youth! I hope you enjoy it.
GOODBYE TYLENOL?
One of my favorite people to whom I constantly turn for all things “kids health” is Dr. Elana Roumell. I learned this from her regarding Tylenol:
“When Tylenol enters the body, it goes right to the liver where it gets metabolized before reaching the bloodstream. During the metabolism of Tylenol, the liver produces a toxin called NAPQI, which causes oxidative damage.
“NAPQI drives inflammation and depletes the powerful anti-oxidant, glutathione. This leads to excess oxidative damage.
“Without enough glutathione, the body isn’t able to detoxify toxic substances as easily, thus increasing the overall levels of toxins circulating in the body.
“As much as possible, we went to avoid toxic chemicals such as pesticides in our food, BPA in plastics, pollution in the air, and toxins in our medicines.
“Tylenol turns into a potent toxin.”
DO YOU HAVE A FIRST-RATE INTELLECT?
“The test of a first-rate intellect is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in your head at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald
Here are two opposing ideas I’m trying to hold in my head simultaneously:
-
There is so much darkness, deception, hatred, and spiritual laziness in the world.
-
God still loves the world, and so should I.
FLICK THE DOMINO
“Start somewhere. Clean your room.” – Jordan Peterson
My family and I just moved for the third time in two years, and this latest move has proven the most time- and energy-consuming one yet! Once everything was under our new roof, we were temporarily paralyzed with the seemingly insurmountable mountain of boxes that lay before – and around and behind – us. How I wished life could become a real-life “before and after” Instagram Story in which Slide #1 shows a horrific mess that is magically transformed in an instant when Slide #2 pops up in all its pristine perfection.
But alas, no magic Instagram elves came to assist us, and we had to take Jordan Peterson’s advice and just “start somewhere,” which for us meant grabbing a box-cutter and getting to work! We haven’t lost momentum since, and two weeks later, our house looks like a home, hallelujah!
What’s a mountain you’re facing in your life today? What’s one thing you can do before you go to bed tonight that will put you one step closer to conquering it?
A SECRET TO LASTING YOUTH (from my current read, Rainbow Valley by L.M. Montgomery)
“She had watched the ship on which her lover went sailing out of Four Winds Harbour into the sunset. But, though she watched long, she had never seen it come sailing back. That vigil had taken girlhood from her eyes, yet she kept her youth to a marvelous degree. Perhaps this was because she always seemed to preserve that attitude of delighted surprise towards life which most of us leave behind in childhood – at attitude which not only made Rosemary herself seem young, but flung a pleasing illusion of youth over the consciousness of everyone who talked to her.”
