Compassion & Salt, Fear vs. Patience, Making a Baby & More!

Hello, my friend!

I hope you’re having a fantastic week! I’m enjoying a delicious breakfast at a local cafe and looking forward to a much needed hair appointment in a little while. #thelittlethings

My favorite thing about hair appointments isn’t necessarily the healthy look and feel of a fresh cut and shiny new color (I’m unfortunately not a natural redhead!), but the opportunity to read for an extra hour or so. Again, #thelittlethings! I’m almost done with the marvelous L.M. Montgomery biography and am feeling a bit sad that it’s drawing to an end, and it’s not a happy ending, I’m afraid. What are you currently reading? Reply back and let me know!

This week, I’m excited to share a few favorite finds I’ve stumbled across recently and hope they’re a blessing to you or someone you know. Oh, and don’t miss my free book offer at the end!

COMPASSION THROUGH SALT

“I heard my mom asking our neighbor for some salt. We had salt at home, so I asked her why she was asking.

“She told me, ‘They don’t have as much money and they sometimes ask us for things. So I asked for something small that wouldn’t burden them. I want them to feel as if we needed them too. That way, it will be much easier for them to ask us for anything they need.” – Anonymous

Do you know someone who doesn’t have much who could use this kind of thoughtfulness and creative compassion from you?

FEAR VS. PATIENCE

“Fear arises when we imagine everything depends on us.” – Elizabeth Elliot

“Patience develops in proportion to my belief that God is in absolute control of my life.” – Charles Stanley

Notice the distinction between the emotion of fear and the virtue of patience. We experience fear when we view ourselves as God, to some degree. Conversely, we have more patience when we rightly view Him as good, trustworthy, faithful…sovereign.

ADDICTION INSIGHT

“The opposite of addiction isn’t sobriety; the opposite of addiction is connection.” – Johann Hari

Addictions often develop because of a break in a specific connection, be it to a friend, relative, or significant other, a job, one’s health, or even perhaps a long-held dream that ended in devastation and disillusionment. When, not if, hard times hit us, it’s so important that we don’t isolate ourselves from life-giving sources, namely other people who are stable and supportive, nature, good, regular sleep, healthy foods, plenty of exercise, and chief of all, daily prayer and the Word of God.

“TRYING” VS. “NOT TRYING” TO GET PREGNANT

In my latest podcast, I share my personal experience with “trying” and “not trying” to conceive. I encourage anyone you may know who’s struggling to conceive a child to give it a listen.
