Celebrate the Small Things, Protect Your Brain, Get Your ShiP Together!

Hello, my friend!

I hope your January has been lovely, filled with healthy habits, grateful thoughts, and delicious stories!

I’m in between novels right now, as I’m prioritizing a nonfiction book on mothering boys (check it out HERE!), but next up on my fiction to-read list is called A LONG WALK TO WATER, which I heard about from Sarah Mackenzie of “Read-Aloud Revival.”

Speaking of “Read-Aloud Revival,” Sarah’s book, THE READ-ALOUD FAMILY, is absolutely fantastic! If you’re a parent, or know a parent, it’s a must-buy! It’s all about how reading aloud to your kids (and teenagers!) can hugely impact their lives and yours. It’s incredibly motivating and has deepened my love for storytelling and all things cozy.

Time to jump into this week’s Top 4. Hope you enjoy them!

CELEBRATE THE SMALL THINGS (that are really quite big…)

“In a world where extremes of ‘wellness’ are glorified, we also need to celebrate:

  1. You got your shoes on and left the house for a walk
  2. You skipped that sugary drink
  3. You meditated, prayed, or practiced mindfulness for any amount of time
  4. You did something to protect your sleep quality
  5. You read and learned something new today
  6. You connected with another human today.”

SUPER SUPPLEMENT – CREATINE

The following health tip comes from @dr.williamwallace via Joe Rogan’s Instagram account:

“Creatine doses of 20 grams per day for at least 7 days, or 4 grams per day for several months can increase total brain creatine levels in young and older adults.
This has been shown to enhance memory, boost attention, and improve processing speed for adults aged 18-60.”

I’ve been incorporating Thorne’s creatine into my daily vitamin/supplement lineup. You can check it out HERE (not sponsored!).

METAPHOR OF THE MONTH

“Ships don’t sink because of the water around them. Ships sink because of the water that gets in them. Don’t let what’s happening around you get inside you and weight you down.” – Unknown
