I hope you’re doing well! I saw this quote online earlier and wanted to share; it’s such a great reminder for us to (metaphor mixture coming up!) stay in our lane and stop and smell the roses…daily!:
“No matter what’s going on in the world, have your tea, make your list, plan your meals, fold the laundry, bake something for the family, and be a light in your home.”
It’s easy to get wrapped up in world events and find ourselves feeling paralyzed by the ages-old plight of man’s inhumanity to man, natural disasters, political corruption, conspiracy theories about all of the above, and so forth and so on. What’s not easy is rising above the din of external noise and internal chatter (Chatter is an excellent book, by the way!) and prioritizing contentment, peace, joy-filled service, and productive pursuits that benefit ourselves and those around us.
What are some things you do each day to, in a way, peacefully rebel against the fusillade of shocking headlines, disconcerting soundbites, and downright disturbing images that flood social media? I’d love to hear about them! Email me at diana.tyler86@gmail.com. I personally love getting out, phone-free, with my kids in the sunshine and romping around with our dogs, with absolutely no agenda other than to see what adventures await (as long as said adventures don’t include snakes or spiders.) I’ve also been cooking a lot more, something I used to dread, but am slowly warming up to the more I do it…and do it with a thankful heart and positive mindset! Hearing my family compliment my cooking – without being prodded, ha! — is highly motivating, I must say!
Alrighty, jumping into this week’s blog. I hope you enjoy it!
THE POWER OF A CONVERSATION
“A recent study found that having just one meaningful conversation with a friend each day can boost happiness, lower stress, and reduce feelings of loneliness.
“Connection is essential for health.” – Mark Hyman, M.D.
ANTIDOTE TO MINOR IRRITATIONS:
I read this recently in a book about courageous siblings, Hans and Sophie Scholl, who were executed in Nazi Germany during World War II:
“Be glad it’s raining. If you aren’t glad, it’ll rain anyway.” – Hans Scholl
I speak for myself when I say I’m all too often annoyed by trivial things. Attitude is everything, and finding silver linings is a skill we’d all do well to improve, if not master!
This 19-minute talk titled “The Most Compelling Argument Against Tech in Schools” is, well, quite compelling! I encourage you to watch it, especially if you have kids or grandkids.
